Historical Routes, Women of the Pindos Monument

I took this photo in 2018 on one of my adventures to Vikos Canyon, located in the mountains of Epirus. This monument is dedicated to the brave women of the region. It is located at the entrance of central Zagori, a tribute to all women in Greece. These heroic women of Pindos were at the frontline during the second World War, one of the most important events in Greek history. The women carried ammunition and supplies  to the soldiers with boldness and courage despite the treacherous conditions. The women of Zagori are a symbol of true bravery because of their refusal to surrender to the Italian forces.
